Scuba Diving Magazine reviews some popular backplate buoyancy systems. While I was impressed with the number of systems reviewed I was surprised that they chose not to review anything from the Halcyon line of scuba products. Halcyon is one of the best known and most used backplate systems so it’s absence leaves one to wonder exactly why Scuba Diving didn’t include them. Regardless, they do a pretty good job explaining the strengths and weaknesses of the products they review and it’s well worth the read.

Bias Alert: I own a Halcyon backplate and wings which I have used pretty much as my main BC for the last few years. I’ve always had good experiences with their products and recommend Halcyon to anyone thinking of going backplate.

I found another cool scuba diving blog called Blue Beyond. The authors claim to “focus on providing information regarding the underwater world, through articles, photography and courses and workshops regarding scuba diving and photography.” Lots of Podcasts so you can enjoy their content while riding out to the dive site.

Scuba Diving Mag’s editors have started a new blog called Underwater Insider. Lots of interesting articles that probably would never make it into the print publication.

Although the story seems a little hyped up, it looks like the Bangkok Aquarium is now allowing divers to dive in the aquarium as part of their Deep Ocean exhibit. The reason I say hyped-up is because many other aquariums let you dive with sharks, Disney World Epcot being one so while this may be a new attraction for Bangkok, it’s certainly not as amazing as they try to make it sound.

Regardless, it may be something Bangkok divers might want to slip into their next visit to the Land of Smiles.

Divehappy has a nice little summary of the story about Aussie football star Josh Francou and his father being stalked by a great white.
