I’m not sure if this is going anywhere but it looks like an ambitious group of folks have started a scuba related website called Scupedia. The aim looks to be to create a scuba specific version of Wikipedia (an open encyclopedia which anyone can add information to). The site doesn’t have much up there just yet but maybe if enough scuba divers, dive masters, and instructors pitch in this can become a valuable tool for the scuba diving community.

I just got done exchanging a couple of emails with one of the folks behind the website MyDiveBook.com. A very nicely put together site and a valuable resource as it becomes more popular.

Basically you can go in and log your dives like you would in your log book. The advantage though is that it’s somewhat community based so you can see other people’s dives as well (if they’ve choosen to make them public). You can check out what other people have to say about particular dive sites and get a much better picture of what the diving is really like than you normally could from a magazine article or . . . a website like mine

The other side of the site is for businesses who can then advertise (currently for free) their dive ops and services based on where you want to dive. So let’s say for instance I’m doing some research on diving in Costa Rica. If other divers have logged their dives from sites in Costa Rica I can check out their log entries and have links to local dive ops and businesses right there at your fingertips.

Some of the above features already exist more are coming every day and based on what I’ve seen so far it looks like it’ll be a really great site.
